So yes this started as our April Fools day joke / Prank and no we are not launching drones to aid in our moves
But it did get me thinking how long before this could be a reality ? Why would drones be useful for removals ? Well starting with your smaller drones (under 249 grams) they already could be and possible are been used , by some companies , to do aerial shots of places to check the access, but that would not be perfect , as they would/don't give a sense of scale as it would from foot ? (I suspect ) But if you could get a larger drone that you could have carry enough weight and that would need to be at least what a human removals worker can carry, then they could be handy when you need to tranship from trucks or vans to smaller vehicles , Thou at the same time some of the places they would be handy for the said above reason the might not be handy as they would need to be quite large to carry the weight , so a tight narrow street , would the drone be able to be safely flown in a way to let it get in , semi land so a person can say remove the boxes (and we are not talking small boxes we mean boxes weighing 10 , 15kg etc) Plus with all the street furniture , and cables in modern cities that is something to consider But still do I think they could be handy? yes but only in some situations as I said about Transhipping , sure in towns and cities and villages there are more than the above things to consider , but what about say a house in the middle of the countryside , and the approach from the sky is easy , and the road is narrow and say with a weak bridge , then yes I think they could be handy But the biggest problem as mentioned would be twofold ,the drones own size and weight, that it would need to be as the tech stands right now , to carry any where near enough weight ,would take a lot of payload up on the removals vehicle , (or you would need a smaller van to carry it (and that van could be used to tranship ) And due to its weight you would need permits , flight plans( willing to be corrected this is my understanding ) and a qualified drone Pilot But how would it work if you could over come the issues? Well as I see it , you would have someone in the larger vehicle load a cargo net or cargo frame , the drone hoovers and you attach a line to it (yes like underslung cargo operations on helicopters ) and your repeat the same at unloading Would it be safe ? Well you would need specially trained crews as the drone still would basically be a mini Helicopter right now And would you want to land it to unload , in areas where people could be about? no the why is simple and the same reasons larger drones need all the regulations safety So if in the future, they can make a small enough drone that is strong , only weights the same as say the average removals person , and work out the kinks as mentioned (and more I am sure I haven't considered) It would be handy tech . And as said I am wondering when ? as this might yet become possible
